Working as a makeup artist in the film or TV industry can be very exciting. But it also comes with a unique set of challenges. The hours are long, the work is diverse, and time isn’t always on your side. But it doesn’t mean you can’t master your job. Whether you’re still attending makeup school or a recent graduate, here are a few tips on how to apply makeup in the film and TV industries:
Be Flexible
A typical work day as a makeup artist on set is anything but typical. It’s hard to predict what the day will entail. This is why it’s important for makeup artists who work in the film or TV industry to stay flexible and be prepared for nearly anything.
For example, you might have to apply makeup on an actor who is reciting their lines. Or, you might have to rush the job in time for the next scene. It’s important to do your best with whatever time and space you have. Staying flexible while on the job will ensure that you can adapt to any situation and get the job done regardless.
Know More than Makeup
The average makeup artist on set has more than makeup training under their belt. They might also know hair styling and wardrobe. To make in the fashion, film, or TV industries, we recommend going beyond your comfort zone and adding other skills to your resume.
