Tips to prepare and care for your winter skin
Winter can be harsh on your skin, since the harsh winds, cold temperatures, and dry air can dry and stress your skin. Couple this with stress around the holidays, changes to your routine and irregular eating patterns can cause breakout, tightness, and dullness. Here are some tips to ensure your skin looks its best in winter.
Change it up – As the weather gets colder and dryer, your skin will need more moisture. Look at changing your moisturizer to a thicker variety with nutrients to hydrate your skin.
Choose your cleanser carefully – Some cleansers will strip your natural skin’s oils and leave dry lines and redness. Look for a cleanser that is specifically suited for winter and opt to use it only when necessary.
Exfoliate – To bring out your skin’s youthful glow look at using a facial scrub that will remove dead skin from your face. Opt to use it once a week, to reduce dullness and help your skin absorb moisture.
Protect – Although Winter is less sunny, there is still sun. Therefore, look at protecting your skin with a safe sunscreen with zinc oxide, wear protective hats and clothing.
Shorten your showers – Although hot showers are relaxing during winter, they can cause your skin to dry out. Opt for lukewarm showers that will retain your body’s natural oils. Hot water feels great in the winter, but it saps skin of its natural oils.
